WORTHINGTON, Ohio — The Worthington Christian Warriors have enjoyed a strong run throughout the OHSAA postseason. The Warriors look to complete their impressive postseason run as they battle for the Division III Boys Soccer State Championship on Saturday night inside Historic Crew Stadium.
It was a strong first season in the CBL for the Warriors as head coach Dan Roads and his men collected a 12-2-3 overall record and went 4-1-1 in conference play en route to a second-place finish in the conference.
The Warriors punched their ticket to the state championship contest Wednesday evening by defeating Waynesville 4-0 in the Division III semifinal in Xenia. Goalie Ryan Miller was massive in the victory collecting seven saves to preserve the clean sheet. Worthington Christian’s victory brought a sense of relief to the team as well as the man in charge on the sideline.
“I was starting to doubt it,” Roads told the Columbus Dispatch on returning to the state tournament. “It’s a journey. It’s super hard. It’s difficult to get there. During those 10 years, I didn’t think it would ever happen again. I doubted myself a lot just naturally because I thought I had really good teams during those 10 years. I thought I had players who represented our values really well during that time. I’m just proud to be a part of a group of guys that believed in the process and believed in what the program has always relied on. Now they get to feel a trip to the final.”Â
Central Ohio will also have a rooting interest on the women’s side as Olentangy Liberty battles Walsh Jesuit at 4 PM Friday at Historic Crew Stadium.
Those interested in rooting for the Warriors can secure their tickets at ohsaa.org/tickets and prepare for the 7 PM kickoff on Saturday evening.
